What Does the Future Hold For 2011?

I have decided to compile a list of predictions for 2011.  Usually predicting the future is a fool’s errand, but I guess I just consider myself a political fool.  Below are what I think will probably happen in the remaining 362 days of 2011.

  • Mitch Daniels will not pursue a run for President and throw his support behind Mississippi Governor (and close friend) Haley Barbour.
  • With impressive majorities in the Indiana House and Senate Republicans will pass student centered education reform that includes merit based pay for teachers.  The governors local government reform agenda will also pass, but with bi-partisan support.
  • After redistricting takes and the new lines are official, 2011 will give way to a tidal wave of primary challengers on all levels of government challenging 2010 numbers.
  • No less than four Democrats will announce they are running for governor in 2012 including Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel, Former Indiana Speaker of the House John Gregg, Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez and Congressman Joe Donnelly.
  • To no ones surprise, Mike Pence will announce he’s running for governor leaving the 6th District wide open. David MacIntosh will announce that he will be seeking his old seat and will face challenges from Don Bates Jr. and, depending on redistricting, possibly someone who ran against Mike Pence in 2000 Republican primary.
  • In my neck of the woods, Hart Summeier, a conservative 18 year old running for Greenfield City County Council, will win his primary.  That’s not much of a stretch at this point as he’s unopposed.  He’ll also win in the general.

What do you think will happen?  Leave your predictions in the comment section.
